Peacebuilding Cross Border Rewilding Initiative

Nature transcends borders and therefore ecological restoration can also be regarded as part of the peace process. The Global Shapers Hub Belfast in collaboration with equivalent Hubs Dublin and Galway are launching a Cross-Border Rewilding Initiative to facilitate both peacebuilding and cross-border cooperation through the process of rewilding and ecological restoration.

The Peacebuilding Cross-Border Rewilding Initiative will facilitate both peacebuilding and cross-border cooperation through the process of rewilding and ecological restoration. The proposed project will bring together organisations from both sides of the border to work collaboratively on rewilding initiatives to promote peacebuilding, honing in especially on landscapes along the border regions. With rewilding in mind, the project aims to increase biodiversity and restore natural habitats which are critical for the health of our planet.

Additionally, this project hopes to foster a connection between communities and the ecosystems they dwell. This connection will provide opportunity for peacebuilding activities which will promote the values enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement, deepening cross-border relations between both communities North and South.
