Power.Coders

Turin Hub was honoured to provide consulting and deliver workshops to Power.Coders - Coding Academy For Refugees.

Power.Coders was founded in Switzerland and has expanded to four cities: Zurich, Lausanne, Milan and Turin. The initiative provides selected refugees and asylum seekers with intense coding courses followed by paid internships at partner Companies.

Thus it addresses several issues at once:

  • Empowering individual refugees and their families by providing them with quality education and employment opportunities leading to their economic independence,

  • Reducing inequalities and promoting social cohesion by facilitating access to quality education and jobs specifically to an underprivileged group,

  • Closing the gap between employer’s expectations and candidates’ skills on the job market in the Swiss and Italian IT sectors (According to Codefop, in 2020 there were 750.000 vacant positions in the IT sector in Italy).

Turin Hub participated in carrying out the second edition of the Academy that has unfolded throughout the year 2020. It involved over 20 students living in Turin and in other cities of the Piedmont region. By December 2020, 80% of participants had started a paid internship within the Programme, and over 60% of participants had found paid employment.

"It was a real pleasure to work with the Global Shapers Turin Hub. They joined our programme with enthusiasm and added an incredible value to our seminars on soft and business skills. We are very happy to have them in our network and we are looking forward to future collaborations" affirmed Stella Gianfreda, Social Lead Powercoders Italia.
