Project Alert: Voice against Domestic Violence

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Victims of domestic violence often ignore early signs of abuse. Early detection and action is needed to stop the violence

TARGET GROUP:

Primarily focused on women in Germany facing domestic violence

PROPOSED SOLUTION:

The solution is to use home voice devices such as Google Home/Alexa to analyse conversation to detect verbal abuse. The project would kick off with a radio campaign which would have a strong advertisement depicting violence situation and guiding the victim to take an action

HUB ACTIVITIES:

Munich hub has partnered with two organisations: future of voice and GREY germany to develop alexa skills and create the advertisement. A social media campaign will also be launched. UN Women Germany is in support as well for marketing activities.

The solution has two main parts:

  • Advertisement that depicts an abusive situation

  • Alexa skill that communicates with the user, guiding through some situation based questions

SHORT-TERM GOALS /RESULTS:

Radio campaign is the short term goal to create a buzz around detecting early signs of abuse.

Spotify has confirmed a spot for the advertisement. The project team is in constructive talks with RMS, and some other big organizations for collaboration

LONG-TERM GOALS /RESULTS:

In the long term, voice devices will be able to detect the abuse through conversations. We expect Google and Amazon to be onboarded as well to support this and have a feature in the device.
