Project CHAMP

The lack of awareness of laws related to children is a significant problem that can lead to children being exploited and denied their rights, especially if and when they come in contact with the law. The proposed project aims to address this issue by focusing on advocacy for laws related to children, their rights, and their duties. Through this program, the project seeks to make youths literate on their rights and duties and make them aware that they are protected, safe, and prioritized in Bhutan.

Project CHAMP will be implemented in schools across Thimphu as of now, with a focus on students in grades 10, 11, and 12. The project will use various methods such as group activities, presentations, and question-and-answer sessions to impart knowledge on children's rights and responsibilities in case of any contact or conflict with the law. It will cover various topics related to children, such as Constitutional Rights and Duties, Children in Conflict with the law, Pre-trial and Procedural Rights among others.

The project's success will be measured by the number of students attending the program, checking their understanding through before and after program surveys or other activities, and keeping a record of the number of schools covered. The program's implementation may face some challenges such as time constraints and the risk of students misunderstanding the laws or taking advantage of it. To overcome these challenges, the project will collaborate with schools' law clubs, Peer Helpers and volunteers to ensure successful implementation.

 Objectives:

  • Project CHAMP aims to empower children with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities

  • By raising awareness and advocacy of laws related to children, the project hopes to contribute to the development of a just and equitable society in Bhutan.
