Project-RUN: Rural Urban Network

Problem statement

The products crafted by Women-Self Help Groups (SHGs) to support their livelihoods face challenges in reaching appropriate markets and generating income. Despite efforts by external entities such as NGOs or social enterprises to transport these products from rural to urban areas, there is a struggle to effectively sell them in the target markets.

Target group

Women-Self Help Groups (SHG) members.

Proposed solution

Strategically partnering with the growing sustainability focused independently owned cafes and spaces in Bangalore to place the sustainability products created by SHGs in their spaces.

Hub activities

  • Partnering with stakeholders in Bangalore who have aggregated the SHG products

  • Creating an inventory listing of products that have higher market demand and appeal

  • Reaching out to partner with sustainability cafes and spaces.

  • Connecting the seller stakeholder and buyer

Project short and long-term goals

  • Short-term goal: Facilitate the placement of Women-Self Help Groups (SHGs) products in sustainability-focused cafes and spaces in Bangalore.

  • Long-term goal: Establish a sustainable and scalable model for connecting SHG products with urban markets, increasing income for SHG members, and fostering long-term collaborations between SHGs and sustainability-focused businesses.

Available metrics

  • Increased market access for SHG products in urban areas.

  • Enhanced income generation opportunities for Women-Self Help Groups.

  • Strengthened partnerships with sustainability-focused cafes and spaces.

  • Improved visibility and recognition of SHG products in the target markets.
