Problem statement - Citizens in Surat City need to learn waste segregation and the effective ways of recycling the waste at the source as well as ensuring the implementation of regulations and policies related to single use plastic ban and solid waste management rules in the city wards.

Target Group - citizens of Surat

Proposed Solution -

  • Awareness drive related to waste Segregation & sustainability living

  • Implementation of new regulations in effective way

  • Demonstration and assistance for at source waste segregation and recycling

  • Sustainable alternatives for zero waste living

Milestones and Timelines -

To make youth live and promote sustainable lifestyle and to lower the waste by zero waste living. Demonstration and awareness through carbon footprint calculation of daily living vs carbon footprint offsets for sustainable steps.

Resources needed - sustainable literatures and demos, manpower, money/funding for awareness drive, materials for promotion, monitoring app, social engagement platform, community development for problem solving

Short-term goals - awareness drives at different events/activities/campaigns and residential societies

Long term change - cutlery bank (sustainable behavioural change and adaption of suitable lifestyle). Sustainable app development in the city to promote sustainability living and also to reward the best contributor. If not an application, the hub plans to come up with a "Sustainable Smart Card" for collection of points and using it with public services provided by local bodies.

Available metrics - So far, the hub has held two events Eco-navratri'22 and Lamhe the fest in Surat to deepen the knowledge of Surat citizen in waste segregation and sustainability living. The hub recycled nearly 1,350 plastic bottles, which is 350,097 carbon reduction after recycling of those plastic bottles. The hub also sensitized the participants about their daily carbon footprint generation through transportation and other daily routine. The hub aims to expand with workshop, society/school/colleges seminars and more events related to sustainability living.

Mos (Measurement of Success) - by composition of more waste and recycling of more plastic.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) - carbon reduction and size of sustainable community.
