"Protect the Caspian Sea" - Beach Clean Up

Baku is located on the Caspian Seashore and water pollution is one of the most concerning problems in the city today: yearly 40-45 cubical kilometers of garbage are thrown to Caspian Sea. Global Shapers Baku Hub, together with Ministry of Ecology of Azerbaijan, ASAN Service, Coca Cola Bottlers Azerbaijan and ADA University took part in Beach Clean Up day with hashtag #xezeriqoruyaq - "let's protect the Caspian Sea".


20 beaches of Absheron peninsula were cleaned by more than 500 volunteers. The goal of this project was to clean the biggest possible area, reach out to audience to demonstrate the scale of the problem and educate people on why sea pollution is extremely dangerous for our future. Celebrities and influencers known for their fight for ecology and environment, have joined the event and shared it on social media, what helped to attract more volunteers and reach bigger audience after project was finished.
