Queerious Conversations
Queerious Conversations, a flagship project of the Global Shapers Jaipur Hub, was started as a series of interactive sessions to promote LGBTQ+ visibility and inclusivity in Rajasthan. The initiative aims to create an oasis of encouragement, acceptance, and empathy to foster dialogue around LGBTQ+ rights, through increased awareness and sensitivity. These event series are the first-of-its kind in Jaipur and intend to serve as a platform to generate dialogue around queer activism in its regional context.
Long-term missions of the project:
- Intent: Raising awareness of the issues impacting LGBTQ+ people in India.
- Action and output:
- Organise 6 workshops over the course of four months (i.e. December 2019 to March 2020) across academic institutions, creative centres, co-working spaces and corporates, with a target of reaching 300 unique inter-generational participants.
- Run creative digital awareness campaign across social media platforms to potentially reach 2000 people
- Intent: Encouraging LGBTQ+ visibility across Rajasthan by creating a safe/open space with the help of heterosexual allies.
- Action and Output:
- Creating an ally pledge and resource inventory. At the end of the workshop participants can choose to pledge as allies; the resource inventory will help empower their ally status and can be used to address FAQ’s.
- Intent: Contextualising the evidence base and Queer curriculum
- Action and Output:
- Creating Infographics in local languages
- De-constructing Queer Indian terminologies and its relevance to Indian literature & mythologies
- Intent: Working in partnership with statutory, community voluntary and private sector organisations to promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity and sensitivity.
- Action and Output:
- Conducting information-led workshops at private sector organisations, emphasising the use of sensitive/inclusive language, and identifying specific workplace challenges faced by LGBT+ persons (e.g. Lavender ceiling effect).
- Promoting bias-free, safe and inclusive workplace.
