Real-World Skills: Bridging the Gap from University to Career

What is the project's problem statement? The project aims to bridge the skills gap for students and refugees on the verge of graduating or actively pursuing studies in Norway, especially those interested in technology. The problem statement could be: "How might we increase the availability and level of proficiency in analytical tools for students above 18 with no prior experience or little knowledge of these tools, to give them a competitive edge in their job application process?"

What is the project's target group? The project's target group includes immigrants, refugees, and Norwegians above the age of 18 with a Bachelor or Master's degree. This also encompasses individuals with experience in supply chain, finance and control, and cloud computing. The focus is on those at an initial disadvantage but also extends to anyone looking to enter sectors where these programs are highly utilized.

What is the project's proposed solution? The proposed solution involves conducting training and seminars, both online and offline, tailored towards imparting technical and soft skills. This approach is based on research into the types of technical skills and potential soft skills workshops that could address the identified skills gap.

What are the hub activities for this project? Hub activities for this project include:

  • Researching potential courses and soft skills training/workshops.

  • Creating a timeline for planning and execution.

  • Seeking external funding bodies aligned with the vision.

  • Holding brainstorming meetings.

  • Developing cover letters for funding applications to researched companies.

  • Compiling a list of important information and contacting training providers.

What are the project short and long-term goals? Short-term goals:

To enhance the technical competency and soft skills of the target audience. To prepare participants for the job market by making them more attractive to potential recruiters.

Long-term goals: To lessen the gap between university education and career requirements in Norway. To foster innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration among aspiring tech enthusiasts.

What are the project's available metrics? The available metrics to measure the project's success include: The number of participants who complete the training and seminars. Improvement in participants' proficiency in analytical tools and soft skills. Participants' success rate in securing employment or advancing their careers in the tech industry. Feedback from participants on the relevance and effectiveness of the training provided.

Who are the project collaborators, if any? We are researching external funding bodies in line with the project's vision. Contacting training providers for potential collaboration. This indicates a collaborative approach with external funding bodies and training providers to achieve the project's objectives.
