Summary

The project was a plastic collection drive to sponsor internally displaced children at New Kuchingoro IDP camp to Government Secondary School Garki, Abuja.

Objectives

(i) Raise awareness and action against plastic pollution in Abuja, Nigeria.

(ii) Support the internally displaced community in Abuja with access to quality education.

(iii) Promote the opportunities around recycling and the circular economy.


Activities

(i) Plastic collection drive: This involved the collection of plastic and the sale of (PET) bottles from households and organizations across Abuja for a period of 90 days (3 months).

(ii) Stakeholders engagement: Engaging and onboarding partners.

(iii) Donation and school sponsorship: Community engagement meeting with the community.


The scholarship recipients were high-performing students who could not meet the school's financial obligations. Project Milestones a. N200,000 raised from the plastic collection drive and donations. b. 2,000kg plastic bottles collected and recycled. c. 20 students sponsored with school fees from the New Kuchingoro IDP camp, Abuja.
