Recycling The Largest Tire Graveyard

Problem & Solution

The Kuwait City hub was actively engaged in the efforts of raising awareness on the catastrophic impact of more that 40 million vehicle tires would have on Kuwait's environment, people, and natural habitat.


Target



Activities

The team liaised with public authorities in Kuwait as well as the private sector to facilitate cleaning up the site, which is located about 35km from Kuwait City (The Capital of the country), and transporting the tires to a remote area where they were received by factories to recycle them through a public-private partnership.


Goals

1- Presenting the impact the 40 million tires had on Kuwait's environment in general and how previous incidents led to having the urge of resolving this issue

2- Proposing a Public-Private Partnership model to which benefits the government in terms of public expenditure and support the private sector by adding economic and social value to the country.


Impact

1- Mitigated any environmental catastrophe that might be caused to suburban areas nearby the dumb site by relocating the tires to a remote location far away from residential areas.

2- Fulfilling Kuwait's Vision 2035 by highlighting the importance of sustainability in Kuwait's future.
