Impact

Roots

In Houston, it is estimated that around 2.6 million people are Hispanic or Latino residents (approximately 37% of the population). Many of these individuals are second or third generation Hispanic Americans, recognizing themselves as Americans but also noting their rich Hispanic heritage. However, there is a lack of opportunities for Hispanic Americans to engage in bilateral initiatives on education, entrepreneurship, or development and benefit from a stronger relationship between both communities. The Houston Hub will organize an educational focused initiative in which the hub takes Houstonian Hispanic Americans (college students who have never traveled to Mexico) to Mexico for a business, academic, and cultural immersion program during one of their academic breaks.

Goals:

The project aims to take approximately 5-10 Hispanic American college students to Mexico for a business, academic, and cultural immersion program during one of their academic breaks in 2020. After the trip, the Houston hub will establish platforms for the students (and future program attendees should the project be replicated in the future) in order to generate a continuous engagement and relationship that goes beyond the trip with.
