Rostros de la Migración - Chile

Currently, Chile has an unprecedented migration phenomenon. In the last 5 years, more than 500,000 people arrived in the country. This presents a great challenge for public policy and social coexistence. There are fundamental questions that must be answered: Under what conditions are migrants and refugees arriving in Chilean cities? How are migrants received in the communities? Most migrants are managing to meet their basic needs, but social integration is difficult. Tensions are generated between Chileans and foreigners, especially in vulnerable areas. For that reason, the project “Faces of migration” was created, which aimed to promote integration and coexistence between Chileans and migrants. In a public square, giant photographs were placed with the faces of migrants and refugees, who now live in Santiago. Reflections on migration were promoted, exploring stories about migration that were created and fostering messages of integration for refugees and migrants arriving in Chile. Positive integration narratives were made visible, stories that allowed empathy and combat xenophobia.

Goals:

Promote the integration of the migrant community in the city of Santiago de Chile. More than 50 photographs of migrants were placed in a public square for 4 hours to draw attention to the importance of the inclusion of migrants in society.
