Saksham

Problem Statement: Saksham - a Hindi word meaning ‘Self-reliant’. The hub works to aid underprivileged community members in Surat Area who need financial literacy to prepare for emergencies and achieve their goals.

Target Group: Underprivileged community members including sex workers, rural women, etc.

Proposed Solution: Poverty is one of the root causes for the majority of SDGs we have yet to achieve. Underprivileged community members are the most affected since they do not have the knowledge or awareness of what and how to save and multiply their hard-earned money. The hub aims to provide financial awareness through personalized content relevant to the target stakeholders so that they can make an informed decision. The content includes savings, budgeting, insurance, investment and much more.

Hub Activities:

  • The hub connected with various local NGOs and organizations in the community to understand the needs, concerns and education level of the targeted stakeholders and formed strong relations with such organizations.

  • The hubs designed a PPT in multiple languages to deliver the information.

  • The hub is personally training either the community members or their peers in multiple small sessions and tracking their progress.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results: The hub expects to provide financial literacy training to ~1,000 underprivileged community members in the next 5 months.
