Impact

Selección Transparente

Problem Statement

The Congress had the intention to modify the Youth Law so that only the deputies of the youth commission, 5 in total, would choose the 26 young people who would participate each year in the Youth Congresses to take a proposal to the legislative chamber, as well as receive a monthly scholarship for one year.

Target Group

Youth in Quintana Roo

Proposed Solution

The Global Shapers Cancún Hub along 12 other social and youth organizations launched the movement #Selección Transparente to express deep concern about the intention to modify the Youth Law and managed to participate in the session of the congress to oppose their views

Hub Activities

The Cancún Hub with its allies called on all congress deputies to reserve the modification of article 65 of the Youth Law so that a mechanism could be developed to guarantee the transparency in the state's programs.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results

As active young leaders in our community, we dialogued with our states deputies to approve with 22 votes in favor and none against the modification of article 65 that contemplates the collegiate mechanism promoted by the movement # SelecciónTransparente, leaving the selection of the young participants in a collegiate body made up of the youth commission of the State Congress, the Institute of Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data of Quintana Roo, the Quintana Roo Institute of Youth and a State university to rotate annually.
