Impact

Shaping Politics

Executive Summary

The objective of this project is to become a part of the esteemed legacy projects in the Abuja Hub, with the aim of promoting youth involvement in the electoral process in Nigeria and fostering a culture of voting based on issues rather than the prevalent trends of sentimental, ethnic, and religious preferences.

Problem Statement

Despite being equipped with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC), many knowledgeable, well-intentioned, and patriotic young people may choose to abstain from voting in the upcoming election due to a variety of personal and apparent reasons. These reasons vary from electoral violence; voter apathy; insufficient knowledge of the new electoral bill; a lack of institutional trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); and others. However, it is crucial for Nigerians to acknowledge the outcomes of their decisions. We must realise that the only authority in a democracy is our capacity to execute our collective will.

Objectives

Increase the number of votes cast in democratic processes within the Abuja metropolis.

Improve citizen understanding of the voting process, the electoral bill's new provisions, and what they provide for.

Increase trust in the electoral institutions responsible for the electoral process.

Improvement in the understanding of citizens' duties regarding civic engagement.
