Solar for the People

Problem Statement:


Target Group:

Low income families around Minneapolis and St. Paul


Proposed Solution:

The Minneapolis Hub worked alongside Cooperative Energy Futures, an organization founded by Shaper Timothy DenHerder-Thomas to volunteer and accelerate the work for their first project to install solar panels on buildings around Minneapolis and St. Paul to provide low income families access to cheaper energy.


Hub Activities:

Shapers were responsible for identifying potential locations, completing outreach, and offering professional expertise to the project team.

The Shiloh Temple International Ministries was identified as a great first partner for community solar. This ended up being a 204kW rooftop community solar array and is on the roof of Shiloh Temple and is located in the North Minneapolis neighborhood. This Community Solar Garden came online in June of 2018.
