Street Soccer USA

Project Overview

The Problem: What is the problem you are trying to solve? Why is this problem relevant to Sacramento and/or the Shapers Community?

Currently Sacramento is facing a huge problem with homelessness and an influx of refugees that have recently moved to the area. So far, our hub has not been able to be involved with these two issues.

Proposed Solution: What is the solution you propose? Why this solution? What have others done in this space? What’s worked, what hasn’t? Why will this be different?

We aren’t going to solve the problem with homelessness or the refugee crisis. The best we can do is to partner with an organization already in that space. The Street Soccer USA National Cup is the perfect opportunity to do that.

SSUSA brings its programs to kids between the ages of 6 to 18 years old, as well as special needs populations including homeless families, adults and people in recovery. We focus our efforts on the 33% of youth who are living below the poverty line and have graduation rates between 55-65%. In our nearly 10 years of existence SSUSA has introduced their program and positively impacted the lives of over 15,000 youth and adults, and has grown to encompass 14 cities throughout the USA. SSUSA is also the official partner of the Homeless World Cup and the Street Child World Cup, which provides opportunities for valuable international experiences for our program participants.
