Increased CO2 in the environment is one of the main causes of global warming and the problem of climate change. According to the latest IPCC reports, India will be one of the worst affected countries by climate change. Jaipur, being an industrial city, already suffers from high pollution levels. Our solution to this problem revolves around absorbing the extra carbon in the atmosphere through afforestation and plantations. With the help of students and other micro-level actors such as local businesses, political and non-governmental organisations, Global Shapers Jaipur will attempt to build pockets of green patches throughout Jaipur. This has the potential to act as the lungs of the local neighbourhoods.

Goals:

  • Creating green patches and urban forests throughout Jaipur to absorb the extra CO2.

  • Bringing the various micro-level actors together such as schools and local businesses in the community to directly include them in the solution process of the climate change problem.

  • Increase awareness about the Miyawaki** technique of afforestation.

  • Create a self-sustaining system in the long run where the local actors can work with each other to undertake similar plantation projects.

  • Encourage other Global Shaper hubs to undertake similar projects.
