The Botanical Park Eco-Technology

This is a project implemented by Global Shapers supported by BatiAyiti S.A, GazKole, Fondation Espoir. The main objective is to strengthen the Eco-Technology largest park Botanical planting initiative 300,000 plants of fruits and medicinal plants on 1,500 hectares of land over 5 years. The expected result is to export fruit to generate profit in order to supply school cafeterias and also help Haiti to overcome the serious ecological situation, of coal exploitation at the expense of our environment.

It is planned to plant an orchard of 10,000 mango and moringas on 500 hectares. Nutritional analysis showed that moringa leaves are rich in vitamins, minerals and protein than most vegetables, contain 2X protein and calcium than milk, more iron than beef and more vitamin C than oranges. Production of fruits will reduce the risk of malnutrition by supporting the school cafeterias project.

This has been implemented with hundreds of students from 10 schools in Haiti with a simple procedure, the process is to work within 5 schools each month to prepare and plant 850 seedlings by the students, which will materialize the project and educate and engage young people to understand the issues and work for a better future in Haiti.

The early stages have not been easy: cutting weeds on 5 hectares, handling transportation of seedlings, conducting studies for seed selection adapted to climate and soil. Studies conducted by foreign firms proved the presence of an underground water table. We will need to build a tank for stoker water and 10 tons of manure to maintain the arable land.

The Global Shapers are committed to fully implement the project. The approach for the next 5 years with constant maintenance will create sustainable ecological conditions. The development of the mango and moringa orchard will provide both health care and growth. The average of Haiti’s export market reaches more than 10 million and demand is growing worldwide. We will begin to reap of moringa fruits and leaves after 1 year, while the yield of mango is expected in the next 5 years.
