The Relationship Between Singing Insects and Humans

Project Overview

In the history of Japan, the imperial court of Kyoto has always been the center of a continuous and rich culture. Since the capital was moved to Kyoto in 794, for approximately 1,000 years, Kyoto has been the hub of culture, politics, and economy, supporting Japan.

The spirituality of the Japanese people has been closely intertwined with nature. Amidst the changing seasons of Japan's abundant nature, a culture of appreciating nature flourished, centered around the imperial court. Festivals, music, clothing, cuisine, architecture, and various aspects of life showcased a profound connection with the natural world.

However, as the focus shifted more towards economic priorities, the connection between people's lives and nature started to diminish. From around 1955 to 1973, known as the period of high economic growth, Japan witnessed a shift towards standardized, mass-produced goods over refined traditional designs. This situation had a significant impact on the environment, leading to issues of environmental destruction and health hazards. The amount of general waste increased approximately sevenfold over a span of 20 years.
