Impact

The Virtual Book Club

Problem Statement:

The increased use of the internet for social media and gaming platform has resulted in a lack of reading and significant decrease in hobbies like knitting, drawing, playing puzzle or other activities alike.

Target Group:

Homeless and at-risk children

Proposed Solution:

The Dallas Shapers came up with the project Virtual Book Club to increase accessibility and engagement to reading. Hub Activities:

Activities planned under the Virtual Book Club are:

READ

  • Participants can discuss a book, magazine, novel, story book

  • It would be like a book review wherein they will say how the book was and details of the book and brief intro on author and style of writing

  • This discussion can be of 15-20 mins in each club gathering

PLAY

  • Include a small game each time the club gathers

  • Games can be online treasure hunts, name place animal thing or any short game for 15 mins that makes the club gathering fun

  • A different game for each gathering can be planned

  • Based on the number of participants choice of activities can be done

SHARE

  • Share is a board space given to participants

  • Participants have the chance to reflect on their stories and express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

  • Sharing can be any story, cultural aspect or uniqueness, any art form that they know or do, any new hobby they just started doing and found something interesting to share.
