Training Leadership and Climate Activists

Problem Statement & Proposed Solution

The proposed project aims to tackle complex sustainability issues in João Pessoa, Paraíba, focusing on empowering communities affected by climate racism. Through a holistic approach, the project will offer specialized training to cultivate local climate leaders and activists, engage in community mobilization, and facilitate public awareness campaigns. This initiative seeks to directly address the detrimental impacts of coastline expansion and rampant real estate speculation on marginalized communities. By partnering with key organizations like the Climate Reality Project, Global Shapers, and Impact Hub, the project is strategically positioned to create lasting change.

Short & Long-term Goals/Results

The ultimate goal of this project is to foster empowered and informed communities capable of leading sustainable initiatives and influencing public policies. By equipping climate leaders from marginalized communities with knowledge and advocacy skills, the project aims to influence local and national policy, particularly concerning coastline expansion and unchecked real estate development. The immediate impacts will be seen in greater public awareness of climate issues, stronger community mobilization, and more informed policy debates. In the long run, the project has the potential to reduce climate racism, preserve local ecosystems, and improve the overall quality of life for residents of João Pessoa. Through this multi-faceted approach, we intend to create a scalable model for other regions facing similar challenges.
