Treelionaire Islamabad

Impact Area: Climate and Environment

Problem Statement: Residents of twin cities need to have continuous tree plantations and awareness campaigns in order to fight the rising negative effects of climate change and deforestation.

Target Group: Population of Rawalpindi and Islamabad

Proposed Solution: An annual tree plantation drive where the local community will be engaged and made aware of the climate crisis, its effects on the people, and possible community-based solutions.

Activities: Starting from consensus among the hub members, a fundraising activity was carried out to fund this project, a core team was formed, relevant stakeholders were contacted, a digital campaign was organized to ensure maximum public participation. Annually, the presence of the hub members is ensured on the day of plantation and the tree plantation drive is carried out.

Short-term goals/results: By increasing the number of trees in the city, carbon footprint has been reduced and a general protest again deforestation has been recorded. The relevant stakeholders that basically control issues like deforestation, WASH in the city have been taken on-board and concerns of the public have been heard.

Long-term change: The project has raised awareness among the masses regarding the climate change crisis and people can strive to combat it at an individual level. Lately, a lot of organizations have started working on this cause. The local population has been sensitized about the climate crisis, creating a sense of responsibility among the general public regarding environmental protection.
