Trees for Caracas
Problem Statement:
More than 5,000 square kilometers of forests and vegetation has been devastated in Venezuela in the last 15 years. Illegal mining is accelerating deforestation in Venezuela due to induced-fires.
Target Group:
Venezuelan forests and people.
Proposed Solution:
Trees for Caracas was a project led by our Shaper, biologist Genesis Yanez, that consisted of a three-day training in reforestation methods and in the actual reforestation of an area affected by an induced-fire in Caracas, Venezuela.
Hub Activities:
1,500+ trees were planted in the Universidad Simon Bolivar's Ecological Reserve as a result of this activity.
Short & long-Term Goals/Results:
- Number of Shapers participating in the project: 7
- Number of planted trees directly: 97
- Total of trees planted: 1,114
- Number of Shapers trained: 6
- Number of people trained out of the Shapers Community: 10
Collaborators:
The Caracas Hub participated in this project along with the organizations SADARBOL, Guardaparques USB, Todos Por el Futuro, and Ideas Inquietas.
