Impact

UDesign

Since the beginning of war, many Ukrainian mothers with children left everything behind in hopes of seeking shelter out of the war zone, which includes the Czech Republic and Prague particularly. Kids have been isolated from their peers and parents were torn from their communities.

UDesign aims at providing a safe space for children to learn about different design fields through individual and group activities and establishing a community for their parents to connect and exchange their experiences. A team of Ukrainian and international architects, students, urban planners and artists teach design as an approach to problem-solving.

Workshops not only spark their creativity but provide an insight into the more theoretical and technical framework within the creative fields and give them tools to be part of rebuilding and redesigning their home country in the future. This approach with the focus on fast adaptation, critical thinking and self-reflection skills is oriented at empowering, providing hope and helping see the world through the lens of design.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR:

We had our program running since the begining of March consistantly. Every time, we strive to improve and come up with an interesting and a deep program. We strived for quality over quantity, but to understand the scale of our work, since the start:

  • 127 kids have been impacted

  • 52 workshops have been done

  • more than 25 volunteers have joined our cause

  • an additional program including: 4 site visits, 2 art-picnics, 3 excursion
