Vrakshah

Every year from 2011-2015 about 20 million hectares of forest were cut down. Then things started to speed up. Since 2016, an average of 28 million hectares has been cut down every year. That’s one football field of forest lost every single second around the clock. The clearing of forests is a big contributor to global climate change. About 20 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from the clearing of tropical forests. Since 2000, the loss of tree cover has added 98.7Gt to global CO2-emissions.

With the VRAKSHAH initiative, Global Shapers Indore Hub wants to create awareness that each person needs to grow at least 8 trees every year to replace the oxygen one person consumes, With this initiative, we want to get people all over the city, country, and the world to start small by planting trees in their own homes and expanding it bit by bit to their communities and cities. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, the goal is to plant and inspire others.

This project idea was inspired by global initiatives such as the World Economic Forum Trillion trees initiative, Bangladesh Hub's Trillionaire project and the United Nations Bonn Challenge to bring 350 million hectares of the world’s deforested and degraded land into restoration by 2030; all promote tree plantations. The beauty of this project is that anyone can host a similar event with minimum resources.

Global Shapers Indore invites you to join our cause and make Indore, India, and the world greener.
