The Global Shapers Vilnius Hub has decided to shape future of small-town school graduates in Lithuania. One of key reasons for income inequality in Lithuania, which ranks among the last in European Union in terms of equal income & educational opportunities is severe regional disparities in access to education and professional opportunities. Teenagers in Lithuanian small-towns are less likely to apply and compete for high-end universities and professions which can result in economic under-performance between regions signified by the example of small-town Tauragė and Vilnius, the capital, where each reaches 66% & +140% of EU GDP by PPP basis respectively.

Global Shapers, Vilnius Hub which itself consists of many young professionals from small-towns decided to tackle this problem heads-on by creating a mentorship program for school pre-graduates by matching them with successful professionals from their own towns. The Hub is recruiting mentors from all walks of life - with Lithuanian expat bankers from London City to Google representatives in Lithuania, mentorship program seeks to connect professionals with over 50 school pre-graduates to help and encourage them in choosing ambitious career paths by providing guidance and encouragement.
