Youth and Education - Reducing Dropout Rates in High Schools

The aim of the project to mentor and inspire youth in high schools to pursue their potential, get in touch with relevant role models, and get relevant counseling and mentorship. Norway has high dropout rates (25.5 %) in high schools, and a large fraction of those are youth with minority backgrounds where boys are overrepresented. The picture is complex, but causes may include lack of role models, lack of proper counseling and low cost of dropping out. With this project the Global Shapers Oslo Hub aims at providing role models, inspiration and mentoring to increase the likelihood of youth with minority background to pursue higher education. The Hub is aiming for one school per month, with approx. 5-6 schools in the first half of 2019.Through a series of sessions including both inspirational stories and mentoring this spring, GSO aims to address the issue related to youth and education. The date for application to higher education is April 15th.
