Youth Innovation Challenge/Summit

Global Shapers Lancaster Hub announces plan to “SHAPE Lancaster” through Social Innovation Challenge for City Youth.

Global Shapers, the young professionals extension of the World Economic Forum, will be hosting it's first SHAPE Lancaster Youth Innovation Challenge and Summit on April 28 2016, an opportunity for Lancaster’s future leaders to engage real problems with innovative solutions

The Challenge  is being facilitated by ASSETS, a Lancaster-based nonprofit focused on entrepreneurship, and will bring together local youth from The Mix at Arbor Place, Children Deserve a Chance, and the Boy's and Girl's Club of Lancaster to identify community problems and pitch ideas to solve them through social innovation. Over the next three months, these teams will refine their ideas and prepare for an exciting finale to the Challenge, where the students will compete for cash prizes in a live pitch to a panel of judges at the SHAPE Lancaster Innovation Summit.

Teams from each partner organization will begin working with ASSETS and Global Shapers Lancaster Hub members in February, meeting weekly through April. In addition to the pitch competition, the Summit will also feature a collaborative dialogue between these young people, millennial young professionals, and current community, business, and political leaders to address issues and challenges facing Lancaster's broad and diverse community. The event will also feature a keynote address on social innovation and the power of young leaders.

Global Shapers Lancaster Hub aims to elevate the voices and ideas of young people, and catalyze involvement in local challenges. Global Shapers is still seeking additional sponsors to support this exciting opportunity for Lancaster's young people, and help jump-start a new generation of creative
