Youth Right Career Path

“Youth Right Career Path” is an annual project initiated by the members of the Global Shapers Bandar Seri Begawan Hub since 2016 aimed at supporting youth in finding the right career path by providing exposure to real world working environments. This project supports our mission to champion youth unemployment issues through capacity building and inclusivity. The team has found through research and experience that exposure to a part time job prior to university provides significant influence in choosing the right career path. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), students who did part-time jobs while at school fared better in the post-school labour market than those student who did not. Shapers are tasked with partnering with a different school each year, organizing and facilitating workshops and connecting students with industries for internship opportunities.

Goals:

This project will open up the opportunity for youth between the ages of 14-15 (students from Year 10) to be exposed to part-time jobs to help them experience real time working environments, understand the importance of work ethic and expectations required of them in the work force, build their communication and leadership skills and identify a suitable career path for their future. Each year, students who participate will be enrolled in the following programme

  1. Career Counseling Session - workshop to provide students with interview and CV writing skills while allowing them to discover their passion and strengths

  2. Career Induction Programme - students are provided with an internship opportunity at an industry of choice

  3. Work Allocation - students will be allocated work tasks depending on the nature of the business and skills of the students.
