Youths on Boards

Youths On Boards: came from the Cabinet Offices' desire for increased youth presence on Public Boards through Public Appointments. The government makes 900 public appointments annually to over 300 public boards with a cumulative spend of £200 billion. They are keen to attract diversity of thought on these boards, attracting young and innovative minds from across the country to help shape public services. The Global Shapers Community (GSC), and Young Global Leaders (YGL), as a large community of driven, high achieving young people are a ready resource for fulfilling this need. The Birmingham Global Shapers hub recognized this potential and is working with the Cabinet Office to arrange an event to demonstrate the potential of these two communities, and to enable networking between not only Cabinet office, UK GSC, and YGL, but also stakeholders from the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. The intended outcome of this event is to drive engagement between GSC, YGL communities, and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, with the UK government, with the aim of community members learning about public appointments, processes and upcoming opportunities.

The ultimate goal of the project is to raise awareness of public appointments and government board positions to young people across the UK to increase civic engagement.
