As the next generation, it is our responsibility to work together to fight racism, discrimination and injustice. The Global Shapers Community is committed to fighting racism, discrimination and injustice. We recognise that issues anchored to race and racism are not restricted to one country. Protests observed around the world have amounted to the largest civil rights movement of our generation and we stand alongside our community to help drive this vision of equity to 150 countries.
Thus, we stand by and support the statement signed by Global Shapers around the world:
As members of the Global Shapers Community, we stand with black communities, in the US and worldwide, in the fight against racism, discrimination and injustice.
Black Lives Matter. Black History matters. Black Communities matter.
To our black brothers, sisters, Shapers, friends, and family, we hear you. We stand with you. Black lives matter. They matter so much. We are here to listen and learn. We are here to support you and do whatever needs to be done to make things better. We mourn the lives that have been lost. George Floyd. Ahmaud Arbery. Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Nina Pop... the list goes on. As Global Shapers, we join a diverse community of young people thriving to make tangible positive changes in our communities. Racism exists in all of our societies and we vow to take an active stance in fighting FOR equality and fighting AGAINST all acts of racism that occur in the fabrics of our communities. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We’re sending Grá (love) around the world to all who need it.
To our non-black brothers, sisters, Shapers, friends, and family, we urge you to be actively anti-racist, to educate yourselves, reflect and genuinely listen, support organizations working on racial equity and justice, challenge racist views and practices in your homes, your offices and your social and family circles. This is “a time where silence is betrayal” and we hope you’ll use your voice and take action to make a difference.
