#ShapersSummit20: Day 1 Highlights

Day 1 has already come to a close!

Our Opening Plenaries were full-circle moments that explored our community’s mission, vision, and theory of change from past, present to future. Borge Brende reminded us, “How can we have meaningful dialogue if half of the world’s population is not represented? That’s why the World Economic Forum created the Global Shapers Community.”

Wanjuhi Njoroge (Nairobi Hub) continued, “This community has helped me to shed the imposter syndrome and has given me a platform to shine and speak my truth.” Looking to the future, Noura Berrouba (Stockholm Hub) shared, “If we’re not happy with the Agenda, we have the power to change it. I encourage all of us to address systemic issues around the world.”

Thank you to all our plenary speakers including Parvathi Santhosh-Kumar (Chicago Hub), Alexandra Winkler Osorio (Caracas Hub), Wanjuhi Njoroge (Nairobi Hub), Noura Berrouba (Stockholm Hub), Zakaria Odowa (Kakuma Hub), Wajiha Khalid (Rawalpindi Hub) and James Wong (Melbourne Hub).

500 Global Shapers also tuned into our Meet the Leader Session with Yo-Yo Ma, facilitated by Judy Oh (Atlanta Hub) and Okello’o Joseph (Kakuma Hub). “If you are united in purpose and give meaning to others through your passion and talent, you have started a global movement.” Yo-Yo Ma shared.

Finally, Global Shapers from all corners of the world also shared their cultures and traditions in our Community Activities. These sessions provided a platform to celebrate diversity and acknowledge how this shapes our collective passions and purpose.
