The project emanates from seeing the state of our oceans, as a coastal city. The amount of litter that is often found on the beaches is appalling and we, as Durban Shapers, wanted to address that issue through playing our part in making our planet a better place.

The project aims at reducing the amount of litter found in our beaches. The target group are all the citizens of Durban. We have partnered with an organization that works on beach clean ups and they have 1 public clean up a month. Our role in the partnership is to curate the public clean up and get more hands on the ground to assist with cleaning up our beaches. The solution is increased attendance during beach clean ups. The hub is responsible for soliciting sponsors and creating enough hype to have the people come through. The short term goal is to increase the number of people that come for the clean up and the long term goal is to create awareness so that people are mindful of their actions and impacts associated with their behavioral patterns. The desired output is to clean up the beaches and have good numbers in terms of public support.
