COVID-19 has disrupted the world. Family and friends have been separated, events have been cancelled, and the social isolation has us feeling more alone than ever before. Through the disarray, we are reminded that it takes a collective effort filled with empathy and compassion to get through hardships. During this time, your actions impact the future of your family, friends and neighbours.


About the speakers

Anita Nowak, PhD is an empathy expert, international speaker, award-winning educator and certified social impact coach.

As an Academic Associate at McGill University, she is responsible for the Integrated Management Fellowship Program and an experiential course called Managing for Impact which addresses the UN Global Sustainability Goals within the local context. She also teaches Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Prior to that, she was the founding Director of the Social Economy Initiative, responsible for integrating social entrepreneurship into the Desautels Faculty of Management’s teaching, research and outreach.

Madeleine Lyons was the former Director of Research, Policy and Accountability for Canadian Operations with the Canadian Red Cross. Madeleine worked to leverage data to equip internal and external stakeholders for operational decision-making, organizational strategic design and public policy guidance in the area of emergency management.

Madeleine holds an MSc from the London School of Economics, a BA (Hons) from the University of British Columbia and a certificate in French language and civilization from the Sorbonne.
