Environmental Leader Series

The Environmental leaders talk series (ELTS) is a project that came into fruition during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in Nepal. The climate crisis is not going anywhere, with or without a global pandemic. ELTS is a series of informal interviews conducted with climate change and environmental conservation leaders in Nepal.

The goal of this series was to introduce young Nepalis to Environmental Leaders based in Nepal. These leaders talked about their journeys, which led to their environment initiatives. In doing so, the hub wanted the audience to grasp that these leaders are their peers, regular people like them. If these leaders could do something about climate change and the environment, why not them? Over a period of one year, the hub conducted four online sessions and one physical session with environment leaders:

  • Sajal Pradhan and her journey cycling the Annapurna Circuit

  • Kushal Harjani and his innovative company - Doko Recyclers

  • Haushala Thapa and the environmental damage from cotton production

  • Climate Reality Leaders Mohit Rauniyar and Srishti Vaidya

  • Sanjeevani Yonzon and her Green School Curriculum

Approximately 100 people participate in these sessions overall. A key initiative was to do a pre and post survey to measure the effectiveness and learning achieved from these sessions. The hub found on average that having a measure of accountability, even if it was a simple quiz, immensely increased the attention span of the audience and overall learning takeaway.
