Impact

IMPACTFUL PAWS: Operation PEARL

Project's Problem Statement: Muscat faces a growing stray dog and cat population due to several factors:

  • Lack of TNR programs leading to uncontrolled breeding

  • Limited animal welfare resources (veterinary services and shelters)

  • Cultural bias against non-pedigree breeds (especially wadi dogs and cats)

  • Pet abandonment due to lack of understanding about pet care

Project's Target Group:

  • Stray wadi dogs and cats, abandonded pets in Muscat

  • Potential international adopters

  • Local community in Muscat

Project's Proposed Solution:

  • International Adoptions: Rehome rescued wadi dogs and cats with loving families abroad through collaboration with NGOs, nonprofits, and shelters.

  • Fostering Network Expansion: Build a global network of international volunteers to foster animals and raise awareness locally.

  • Local Awareness Campaigns: Develop educational programs to promote responsible pet ownership and appreciation for all breeds, including wadi dogs and cats.

Project Hub Activities:

  • Rescue stray wadi dogs and cats in Muscat in partnership with local rescue groups.

  • Partner with international shelters and organizations for adoption opportunities.

  • Recruit and train international volunteers for fostering.

  • Develop and deliver educational programs in Muscat.

  • Manage online adoption and fostering platform.

  • Secure funding and manage project finances.

Project's Short and Long-Term Goals:

  • Short-Term (1 year): Rehome 15 dogs and 5 cats, impacting 20 humans directly and 5,000 indirectly through education.

  • Long-Term (3 years): Double annual rescues, establish a sustainable fostering and adoption platform, and significantly reduce Muscat's stray population.

Project's Available Metrics:

  • Output Metrics: Number of animals rescued and rehomed, growth of fostering/adoption networks, educational programs delivered.

  • Impact Metrics: Increased public awareness, responsible pet ownership practices, and reduction in stray animal population.

Project Collaborators:

  • Local NGOs/NPOs: WCDR, Omani Paws, Muscat Dog Adoption

  • Potential partnerships with international animal shelters and adopters (GSC Hubs)
