Nepal Earthquake Relief Project

In the aftermath of the earthquake, sanitation issues had not received the kind of focus it needed. Open defecation combined with the loss of personal hygiene items in people’s damaged homes, was likely to lead to an outbreak of water-borne diseases. The Kathmandu Hub, partnered with Clean Up Nepal to provide sanitation workshops and materials to the affected population.

The Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub crowd-sourced, funded and procured items for hygiene packs for 1150 families in Malta, Manikhel, Chandanpur and Kaleshwor Village Development Committees. Each hygiene pack consisted of items like bathing and laundry soap, tooth paste and tooth brushes, sanitary napkins, and other such items packed in a 10 litre bucket. Each hygiene pack would suffice for a family of at least 5 members and reached out to approximately over 7000 families with the supplies.
