Oceans for Change

Ocean for Change was meant to generate awareness among school kids about the diversity of marine life found in Goa and ways in which it can be protected.

The target group was: students from the age groups of 12 to 15-years-old.

The project ran for 2 years and reached approximately 700 children. The hub organized ocean-based lectures and basic ecology talks for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade students in correlation to their science module at Lourdes Convent High school in Saligao, Goa. Over the course of two years, hub members conducted quizzes and showed around 7-8 ocean-based films per year. In total, hub members taught over 700 students about marine conservation issues and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Following the project, the children were more aware of their local marine environment. They saw the correlations between personal actions and decisions and their impact on the wider ecosystem (for example how littering eventually results in trash getting into water bodies like the ocean and affecting marine life like turtles).
