Wildlife Week

During this series of lectures that took place over one week, participants heard and interacted with experts from various fields related to wildlife conservation. The aim of the project was to educate young aspirants about how they can take up careers in the field of wildlife, what kind of challenges one faces while pursuing it and how enriching working in this field can be. The hub scheduled talks with experts actively working with wildlife in the conservation of marine, reptile, avian and other species, including ACF Paresh Porob, Dr Madhura Niphadkar, Dr Manoj Borkar, Parag Rangnekar, Puja Mitra, Charan Desai and Omkar Dharwadkar. Every day from 2-8 October 2020, a lecture was scheduled from 7 pm to 8 pm IST. Through the speakers, the hub hoped to form interactions between professionals and the audience and discuss today’s topics of importance.

The aim was to secure 200 registrations, mainly stemming from past interactions with teachers and students. In fact, attendance reached close to 300 participants. The hub promoted the event through local newspapers, digital platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Toplink and Whatsapp. When the registrations were opened, the hub received applications from across India and a few from outside the country. The hub collaborated with three NGOs who function primarily in Goa, who also provided speakers. These included Goa Bird Conservation Network (GBCN), Foundation for Environment Research and Conservation (FERC) and Study and Awareness of Wildlife and Environment (SAWE).
