Woman's Day Health Drive

South Africa celebrates Women's month, every August. The hub decided to have a Women's Month Health Drive together with the local clinic. The aim of the day was to provide free breast cancer screening and pap smears. The target group was the communities in and around Umlazi area. The partners we managed to get on board offered the public with breast cancer screening and pap smears to assist the clinic because they often are short staffed or lack adequate resources. The hub planned the day and identified the relevant stakeholders and managed communication and buy-in from the clinic. The hub also assisted on the day of the event with logistics and ensuring that the day runs smoothly. The short term goal was to have 50 breast cancer screenings and 50 pap smears conducted for the community. The long term goals was to educate women on having regular check ups to ensure that their health condition is good and bring them to light about breast cancer. The outcome was the breast cancer screenings and pap smears conducted and results sent back to the clinic. The clinic did receive the results after 3 weeks and the community was given the results. The hub worked with Pink Drive, Mediskills, VUMA, Lancet Laboratories and UMlazi U21 Clinic.
