Book Donation Drive

Problem statement: Education is a fundamental right, and inculcating a reading habit among the youth is essential to reach that goal. The book donation project aims to create a system where books are donated to underprivileged children and old age homes. A significant percentage of students in Kerala need access to notebooks and academic and non-academic books. The book donation project aims to fill this gap by providing the students with the necessary material and developing a reading habit among them.

Target group: The target group includes school students, institutionalized children, residents in old age homes.

Short and long-term goals: There are numerous book reading clubs in Kochi where reading enthusiasts meet weekly for reading sessions. To kick off the project, the idea is to organize a book donation drive during these weekly meetups and donate the collected book to underprivileged students. In the next stage of the project, the goal is to have reading sessions at schools, and orphanages with the students with members from the hub joining and having a silent reading session followed by discussions.

Hub activities:

  • Global Shapers Kochi Hub has to date organized 3 book donation drives in collaboration with Kochi Book Reading Club. Book Donation Drives:
