The Coalition for Intergenerational Fairness is a collective of organisations recognising the need for increased long-term thinking in Australian policymaking. Global Shapers Canberra is an inaugural member of the Coalition. The mission is to see an intergenerational lens embedded in Australian policymaking supported by meaningful intergenerational engagement, data-driven measurement and accountability mechanisms.

This will be achieved by:

• Supporting Existing Initiatives: the hub will seek to support existing initiatives that are gaining momentum, prioritising collaboration and establishing common ground where possible.


• Nurturing an Ambitious Vision: the hub will strive for the ambitious goal of advancing law reform that protects the interests of future generations. This legislation could be used to establish an independent Commissioner for future generations, similar to what was introduced in Wales in 2015. Once adequate momentum has been built, this will include advocating for a Parliamentary Inquiry into Intergenerational Fairness.


• Concurrent Efforts: the hub will pursue complementary initiatives that will support the safeguarding of Australia’s future. Potential initiatives include improvements to the intergenerational report, the introduction of a Budget Statement for future generations and exploring ways to embed future generations considerations into the work of Government Departments.
