Problem

This project addresses the social and environmental impacts of the fashion and textile industry and seeks to increase the consciousness and awareness in cloth consumers, users and manufacturers.


Solution

The Cordoba Hub is leading this project which promotes, through various actions, the growth in awareness and responsibility of the local textile and fashion industry in order to contribute and strengthen an economy based on fair trade criteria, which values ​​people, the environment, creativity and innovation generating articulations and alliances.


Goals

This project aims to:


  1. Promote through various actions increased awareness and responsibility of the local textile and fashion industry.

  2. Generate awareness and participation of society, through different digital campaigns in line with the Fashion Revolution week and with the collaboration of different stakeholders (Colectivo en Construcción).


  3. Gather data and evidence in order to diagnose the status of the Fashion Industry in Córdoba, and update the academic content in order to question the mainstream perspectives. This will be reached through a research project with the collaboration of volunteer students on this topic and joint efforts with 3 Universities (UNC, Siglo 21 and UPC) and research projects.

  4. Use communication to promote sustainable design and to show transparent processes in terms of traceability. The actions include workshops, seminars, and debates concerning responsible consumption and sustainable wardrobe.

  5. Promote and develop a circular economy, to prioritize interactions and individuals over processes, and revalue work and crafts.

  6. Promote Research and Development in materiality and technology through the development of a pilot test of an accompanying program to textile enterprises with a sustainable approach.

  7. Achieve gender representation and participation (of male and female shapers) on fashion initiatives through different challenges, training, and advising on this matter within the Hub.

Target

The target groups are 10 textile entrepreneurs, 20 design and apparel students, 50 fashion and apparel consumers and producers, 15 Actors from the Academy, the State (Córdoba City Municipality) Companies and 2 organizations from the Third sector linked to the textile and fashion industry.


Project Timeline:

This is a cross-hub project. The Shaping Fashion project was started in 2017 by the Amsterdam Hub in partnership with Fashion Revolution and linking the entire Global Shapers community. Since 2018, it has actively participated in organizing dissemination actions, support in visual design, and representation of the Latin American region in the Shaping Fashion Committee, linking and supporting the organization of events to Latin hubs. Activities


  1. Fashion Revolution Week raising awareness about the impact of fashion on the environment (7 invited referents, alliance with Colectivo under construction, 1000 live views of IGTV).


  2. Internal Hub training with 65% attendance and gender representation (30% men): Internal and inter-Hub training to generate reflection and propose transformations in the consumption habits of the members of the organization.


  3. We repeat the Sustainable Fashion Workshop training in Hillel.

  4. Participation in the Sizing Law work table and the democratization campaign of the National Sizing Law (Collective in Construction alliance, more than 1000 views.

  5. Participation in FAUD - UNC publication "Materialities and new paradigms in sustainable fashion".

  6. Collective in Construction: it is a Collective of clothing designers, communicators, brands and organizations that questions their environment in search of redefining and improving production and consumption systems in the textile and fashion industry. It was created from the Shaper Share discussion "Fashion and Textile Industry, and the SDGs" carried out in November 2019 organized by GS Córdoba.
