Impact

Genoa EverGreen

The ultimate goal of Genoa EverGreen is to cultivate a sustainable mindset that permeates society, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Through education, remediation, and community engagement, the project aspires to create a lasting impact on the environmental consciousness of both current and future generations, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.

Genoa EverGreen presents a comprehensive volunteering initiative designed to engage and educate diverse audiences across different age groups. The project centers around three core activities: Climate Fresk, Sustainability Race, and Cleaning of Public Spaces.

Activities

Climate Fresk

Climate Fresk is a project born in France in 2018 and is active in more than 50 countries with over 800,000 participants worldwide. Its goal is to spread a more scientific awareness of climate change in civil society through interactive workshops, whose secondary purpose is to stimulate collaboration among participants, conducted by facilitators.

The workshop consists of a card game (overall 3h), where each card represents a phenomenon linked to climate change (e.g., Ocean Acidification, CO2 Emissions, Additional Greenhouse Effect, etc.). The aim is for each team to place the cards in order on the table, find all the cause-and-effect relationships, and draw arrows between the cards to illustrate what climate change is all about.

Sustainability Race

The audience challenges themselves in a sustainability-themed goose game. Along the way, they will have to answer questions regarding some of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to advance their boat-shaped token on the board representing the Ocean Race route. Whoever crosses the finish line first wins!

This game was invented by Genoa Hub’s Members on the occasion of the Ocean Race Grand Finale in June and July 2023.

It is a suitable activity to be proposed for future public events or at schools.

Cleaning of public spaces

In collaboration with non-profit local organizations we aim to reduce the presence of plastics and other kinds of rubbish in streets, beaches, and public parks. We aim to achieve tangible outcomes in terms of cleaner public spaces, actively contributing to the mitigation of plastic pollution. This hands-on approach complements the educational aspects of Climate Fresk and Sustainability Race, providing participants with a direct opportunity to make a positive impact on their local environment.

The cleanup campaigns not only contribute to environmental remediation but also serve as an educational tool, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the consequences of pollution and actively contribute to a cleaner, healthier community.

 General goals

Genoa EverGreen wants to induce a moment of reflection in those who will take part in our initiative, stimulating a more sustainable behavior in their everyday life and shaping the future leaders of tomorrow showing them the path of green behavior and tendencies.

Local Impact

  • We aim to educate new generations of our city, with interventions in schools, to raise awareness toward climate change, targeting those who will assume an active role in the future decision to safeguard Earth's health.

  • We aim to mitigate the pollution that characterizes our city through cleanup campaigns, considering not only the city center but also the suburbs.

  • We aim to inform older generations as well, in events such as the Ocean Race in which not only young people but also families, couples, and seniors participate, to determine a change in their mindset.

Global Impact

Some members of the hub have become official facilitators for Climate Fresk and one of our main lines of action will propose the activity in the first stage to all Italian hubs, and secondly become a point of reference for the project in Europe
