HPV Vaccine Awareness

The Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection that cancause cervical cancer, genital warts, and other HPV-related diseases. It is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide, and the second most common cancer among women in Nigeria. In Nigeria, cervical cancer accounts for an estimated 24,000 deaths each year.

Kano, a vibrant city in Nigeria, like many regions, faces challenges in healthcare awareness and accessibility, particularly in terms of preventive healthcare, especially among young women. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) remains a significant health concern, with a lack of awareness contributing to its prevalence and associated risks.

Many patients with cervical cancer in Nigeria are young, rather than elderly, hence the need to start prevention at a young age.

The HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. However, awareness of the HPV vaccine is low in Nigeria, and many girls are not vaccinated. This is due to a number of factors, including misinformation, cultural barriers, and lack of access to vaccination services.

Increase awareness of the HPV vaccine and its benefits among girls and their parents in Kano State, Nigeria.

Increase access to HPV vaccination services among young women in Kano, Nigeria.
