Karjernīca


Problem Statement: Young adults in Latvia need to receive insights about career opportunities and self-development in the post-highschool period so that they can make an informed decision on how to proceed professionally.




 


Target Group: Students (10th-12th grade)

Proposed Solution: "Karjernīca” is a mentorship program for high school students (10th-12th grade). The aim of the program is to help young people who have not yet decided on what to do after finishing high school find the career path they are willing to pursue.


 


Hub Activities: The project activities include:





  • Developing and running an online self-development and career consulting course;




  • Online panel discussions about making career decisions;




  • Creating and providing support materials: sources, reading materials, etc. aimed at easing making an appropriate career choice;




  • Mentorship program, matching students with young adults as mentors.




 


Short & Long-Term Goals/Results: The project aims to:





  • Execute 10+ mentoring sessions;




  • Receive 30+ high school student applications to participate in the online course in the 2nd phase;




  • Receive 100+ high school student applications to participate in the online course in the 3rd phase of the project;




  • Improvement in the confidence of students to make a fitting career choice as shown by higher survey scores after attending the course than before attendance;




  • Over 50% of participants of online courses have downloaded the online materials provided;




  • Positive feedback from mentee, mentor pairs about the usefulness of the program.




 


Available Metrics: So far:





  • 8 high schoolers participated in the program in first phase of the project, they received one-on-one mentoring from HUB members;




  • 50 applications were received and 35 high schoolers participated in (graduated) the program in the second phase;




  • 100 applications were received and on average 40 high schoolers participated in (graduated) the program in the third phase of the project on average.
