Learning By Farming - LBF

Learning By Farming (LBF) is a transformative initiative spearheaded by the POC of Agriculture, aligning with the overarching visionof enhancing food security. Through this program, we empower high school students by providing comprehensive training in tree planting and farming techniques. Additionally, we facilitate the planting of trees within their school premises, fostering a sense of ownership and connection between students and agricultural practices. Collaborating closely with the Regional Commission of the Education Ministry, we aim to extend this initiative to encompass 10 schools in its inaugural year, establishing a solid foundation for agricultural education and sustainable practices within educational institutions.

Problem Statement: High school students in the Saharan region lack comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, leading to increased vulnerability to food insecurity due to climate change-induced challenges.

Target Group: The primary beneficiaries are high school students in the Saharan region, aiming to equip 100 students (10 students per school) with skills and knowledge in sustainable agriculture to mitigate food security risks.

Proposed Solution: The LBF initiative focuses on comprehensive training in tree planting and farming techniques for high school students. It involves facilitating tree planting within school premises to instill a sense of ownership and connection to agricultural practices, fostering a resilient ecosystem.

Hub Activities:

  1. Providing hands-on training sessions on sustainable agricultural practices.

  2. Facilitating tree planting within the premises of 10 participating schools to enhance ecological sustainability.

  3. Collaborating closely with the Regional Commission of the Education Ministry to ensure program implementation across 10 schools in the inaugural year.

  4. Advocating for sustainable agricultural policies at local and regional levels.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results:

  1. Short-term: Conduct comprehensive training sessions for 100 students distributed across 10 schools within the year.

  2. Long-term: Create a network of environmentally conscious and skilled young individuals capable of implementing sustainable farming practices in the region.

Goals:

  1. Prioritize Food security as aa local challenge in the saharian region

  2. Prioritize education among younger and elder generations

  3. Practicing basic practices to contribute in the food security challenges

  4. Raise awarness on the food seurity among the region's stakeholders

Available Metrics: Conducted ten training sessions, each spanning two hours, reaching 10 students in each of the ten participating schools.

Aiming to expand the training's scope to cover a broader array of sustainable farming practices and involve other schools in subsequent phases.

Collaborators: Collaborating closely with the Regional Commission of the Education Ministry and seeking partnerships with local NGOs and agricultural experts to facilitate program implementation and scalability.
