My immigration recipe | Mi receta migratoria

Problem Statement:

We think that the immigration is a process that enrich our community. We know that 45% of Uruguayan population do not agree with receiving immigrants (according to a study of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the Republic). To change that, we propose to generate a sensitization action speaking the same language: food.

Proposed Solution:

Our idea is to create a physical and digital recipe book with typical food preparations of Latin-American countries presented by immigrants of these countries that are now living in Uruguay. Every recipe will be accompanied by the migration story of the chef and has to be done with products that people could find locally.

What we have done and where are we now:

- We got in contact with 21 immigrants of every country of Latin-America that are now living in Uruguay

- Know the immigration story of these people

- Register the process of cooking a typical food preparation of their countries

-  We are currently working on creating the physical recipe book (considering sweet, veggie and salty food –at least one preparation of each type for each country-).

- We will create the digital recipe book after finishing the physical book process.

Current milestones:

  • +10 volunteer collaborators

  • 21 Latin American countries represented

  • 21 migrants who chose Uruguay to live and tell their story and their typical food

Collaborators:

United Nations Development Programme (Uruguay), Ministry of Social Development of Uruguay (MIDES) ,Montevideo Intendance -  MVD Lab,  International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Emergentes Llamados Socioculturales
